With the nights starting to draw in as autumn takes hold, September and October always tend to be the months when A1K9 receive high volumes of enquiries from potential clients looking to improve on their home, personal and family security by incorporating one of our trained dogs.
Whether or not this is a purely seasonal thing where people just feel more vulnerable to home invasions and personal attacks as the hours of darkness increase or whether crime figures actually increase at this time of year is not clear but I am lead to believe that the fear of crime, specifically of violent crime such as aggravated burglaries is certainly heightened in the autumn and winter months. Certainly if I think of the stories that people recount to me during their initial enquiries into owning a trained family protection dog, then I have to be persuaded that these certain types of crime that are normally perpetrated on individuals and families living in some of the more affluent areas of the UK are on the increase.
Alarms and other home security measures definitely have their place but unfortunately criminals are often able to bypass them and even if one has monitored alarms, response times are known to be slow. Remember when you or your family is in the precarious position of having unwanted persons either attempting get into your property or taking you by surprise having already gained entry, then 10 or 20 minutes is a long time to wait for help!
Having been in the business of supplying highly trained Personal Protection Dogs to clients both here in the UK and to a total of 34 countries worldwide, A1K9 know what is required from a dog in times of trouble and train the dogs in real life scenario based situations. Equally, we are aware that our dogs may not ever need to protect as just their presence, appearance and deterrent value alone may well be enough to cause unwanted intruders to look elsewhere for their next victim. If however they do need to deal with a problem they do so with speed and vigour, no waiting for help to arrive as it is on tap!

Our training of these Family Protection Dogs is therefore undertaken with the emphasis being on balance and capability. Starting with the selection of potential A1K9 candidates, assessing them for type and temperament and ensuring that their character will allow them to easily transition from our training centre to their new family homes following their extensive obedience and protection training.
These dogs are first and foremost loyal, affable, family pets and companions that have through months of high level training and conditioning, earned their A1K9 Personal Protection Dog status giving them the ability to deal with the aforementioned probems if and when they arise.
I once read that a burglar when asked about dogs versus alarms said that he didn't mind alarms as they didn't bite!
Another common question asked by clients is how a trained protection dog may fit in with their children and other dogs?
All of our A1K9 Personal Protection Dogs and Family Guardians are socialised with children from a young age and so are well used to kids playing and running around, equally they all get to mix with other dogs of many different breeds whilst in training with us so most of our dogs will have no problem interacting with other dogs of either sex. Remember they are just very highly trained regular dogs that like to play, chase a ball and do anything else that a normal pet dog likes to do, the difference is they are trained to protect you from problems both in the house or maybe whilst jogging in the park!
